House expected to pass farm bill Wednesday; Bush threatens veto (The Sacramento Bee)
The House of Representatives today is expected to approve a five-year, $280 billion-plus farm bill, accelerating an election-year collision with President Bush. The farm bill awaiting House passage today includes $170 million in aid for commercial salmon fishermen like Ben Platt, above, on his boat in Fort Bragg, who are affected by the closure of Pacific fishing areas.
