Officials have reopened Everglades and Francis S. Taylor wildlife management areas west of Fort Lauderdale to public access. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says legal hunting, fishing, frogging and recreational use are again permitted beginning today (Nov. 27).

Cold weather and high winds continued to make fishing tough for local anglers. Water temperatures plummeted on the shallow-water reefs and wrecks, slowing grouper fishing for the hardy anglers willing to get wet and bounced around. A few keepers have been taken, but most have been slow.
